Butt Lift by Melissa Johnson MD, FACS
Butt Lift & Butt Augmentation
A butt lift will define the curves and contour of your buttocks. Depending on your surgical goals, several different aesthetic techniques can be performed. If you have excess skin of the buttocks from weight loss, it is lifted and removed to maximize the new contour. Specially designed butt implants may be used to augment the size and shape of your buttocks. Fat injections from other areas of the body can also be used for augmentation and to enhance the buttock size. This procedure is often referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift. Butt Lift FAQs
Am I a good candidate for a butt lift?
A buttock lift will define the curves of your buttocks. If you have excess skin from massive weight loss, the excess skin is removed. If you want fuller, more prominent buttocks, fat injections or specially designed buttock implants are placed. For optimal results, you should be at an ideal body weight. If you are actively losing weight, we recommend your weight be stable before undergoing a buttock lift. During your consultation, we will provide you with our expert opinion as to whether you are a good candidate. We will discuss the surgical process along with any possible risks and complications of the surgery. Write down any questions or concerns you have so they can be fully addressed at your consultation. Are there different types of butt lift procedures?
Depending on your concern, different techniques or approaches can be taken. If you have sagging skin of the buttocks, it will be lifted and removed to provide a better contour of the buttocks. A horizontal incision is made at the top of the buttocks, at the belt line. It will be hidden under clothing. If you would like to augment the shape and size of the buttocks, you may be a good candidate for fat grafting or implants. You may require one of these procedures or a combination of them. Liposuction may also be recommended to better contour the shape of the buttocks. You may have drains placed to help prevent seromas (fluid collections) under the skin.
What is the surgical process?
The surgery is performed at a hospital. During surgery you will receive general anesthesia. The surgery will take between 2-4 hours depending on the extent of the procedure. Once you are awake you are taken to the recovery room for another 1-2 hours. Depending on the extent of the procedure, we may recommend that you spend one night in the hospital.
Are there risks involved with butt lift?
Yes, there are risks with any surgical procedure. Some of the possible risks with a buttock lift are pain, infection, wound healing complications, hematoma/seroma, unsatisfactory results or scars that may require a revision surgery, numbness or changes in sensation, or asymmetry.
What is the recovery process for buttock lift plastic surgery?
The first few days you may feel tightness and/or pain of the buttock area. You will notice that the pain decreases with each passing day. You are sent home on pain medications which will decrease your discomfort. You will have a dressing on the incision. We will see you about one week after surgery to evaluate your healing process and remove the drains. We request that you do no heavy lifting for at least one month following surgery.
